- Added inventory management. Units can now drop, pick up, and interact with items in a battle. The backpack has also been enabled, so you can store extra magazines or weapons within the backpack and use them when needed. Magazines have an associated cost to load and unload them. Each inventory also has an associated cost of placing and taking items, for example the backpack costs 20 to take from, and 15 to place into.
- Added floor item stacks, which appear when items are placed onto the ground. They must be within a unit's vision to appear.
- Units now drop all items when dead.
- Added new sprites for items when on the floor.
- Added stat names to stat bars, revealing the identity of the mysterious third bar.
- Recreated the uzi icon to look less stretched.
- Reworked the inventory system somewhat, so that fewer assumptions are made in the code, making it faster to add onto. More inventories for belts and pockets exist in data, but have no UI associated yet. These will be added in the next inventory update.
- Items can no longer be swapped by clicking on them with another item selected, due to the new inventory flow.
- Made some changes to GuiCookie which allows the UI to scale with a fixed aspect ratio, preventing stretched UI.
- Changed the UI to make it a bit more bold and look less like something from Windows 95.
- Reworked the cursor to give a bit more information.
The plan for the rest of version 5 is to fully flesh out the inventory system and add some QoL features. So far, these are the features planned before version 6:
- Shot preview. A line will show your shot's path, and show any blockages along the way.
- Extra item information. A tooltip will show you the type of magazine loaded in a gun, as well as the type of bullet within that magazine. It may also show interactions with the item.
- Different item sizes. Currently, every item takes up one slot, but soon items will have varying sizes. The pistol, for example, will take up a 2x2 area.
- Strength stat and a carry limit based off that.
- Quick firemode cycling, instead of having to click on the button.
These features may or may not make it before version 6:
- Item throwing.
- Better pre-battlescape inventory, showing all available items with an infinite supply.
And finally, this is the plan for the next major versions, in no particular order:
- Grenades and throwing weapons.
- Better AI.
- Map generation.
- New unit animation system, including ability to crouch.
- An actual name (VoxCom is a bit informal).
